Frugal Treats Just For Summer

Here are two wonderful desserts that are only really perfect for summer.

Strawberries and Cream

Take as many strawberries as you can pick (if you’re lucky enough to have a garden) or buy. Wash and slice. Sprinkle with brown sugar. Let sit at room temperature for at least an hour. Pour on cold, cold liquid whipping cream. Fight your children over who is going to drink the leftover juice. Concede graciously, because you are the parent, and after all, that is what parents do. Then go make a

Frappucino but better

In a tall hand blender container put two spoonfuls of instant coffee, two spoonfuls of sugar (even if you don’t regularly sweeten your coffee, a spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down makes it taste better), a cup of whatever kind of milk you have on hand and at least six ice cubes. Blend well. Pour into tall glasses and wait a minute. The foam and cream will rise to the top and is delicious eaten with a spoon. If you are sure that no children will be surreptitiously sipping from your glass, this is yummy with a generous splash of Kahlua.
