Yes I do post specifically local grocery information on my blog because otherwise the money-saving tips I find on the web or in print media is too general to be of use to people who live in my city / county. If you want to find the practical details of how to do it in Monroe, Mich., I'm the only known blogger with that information.

So we buy cheaper and cheaper versions of various items, going down in price until we find that we're noticing a dip in quality or flavour, at which point I settle for the slightly higher-priced item that we're happier to eat. It's important to strike a balance between keeping grocery costs low and feeling satisfied with one's diet.

I go by the philosophy that I read in the Tightwad Gazette (can't find the exact quote at the moment… the book is so big!) of figuring out what the minimum acceptable quality is for you. There are very few products that I am brand loyal to so the price is a major factor. However, given the few brand names that I must have, I don't feel so bad for spending more on them because 1) I know they will be used, 2) no waste, 3) I've saved in other areas/other products. This same concept can be applied to many other purchases one must make, not just groceries/food.

I have switched over to store brand for almost everything, and in exchange I don't feel so bad about buying more expensive things like avocados. It's healthier for me and I still save quite a chunk of money in the end, without feeling guilty about paying for healthier items.
