You must realize that not everyone is in the market for used merchandise. $55 for a new, quality handbag is VERY reasonable. Though thrifting has environmental merit, many shoppers find value in using an inherently clean, odor-free product, one which they may return if found unsatisfactory.

“You have no idea what frugal really is” – This seems like a markedly strong statement to maintain. Everyone’s circumstances differ. Frugality is not an objective sentiment.

Lastly, it’s unfortunate that your husband dictates your personal purchases.

I was asked to write this for the company because they wanted to help get our name out there (and I love our prices and products, so it wasn’t a challenge!) but I also wrote it because I thought I had something to offer on the topic of being frugal, especially from the perspective of someone who hasn’t had to be in the past. So yes, it is a marketing technique, but it also came from my own experiences and is about more than just trying to sell our products. I hope you found something interesting or useful in it, at least!

No problem! Make sure she checks out the rental options, too. I haven’t done it myself because I like having the option of keeping the book if I think it will be useful in the future, but I have some friends who save a lot of money that way. Affordable Style? $55 for a bag? If I pay $10 at a thrift shop, it seems like a lOT. $17 scarves? Again, mine are from thriftshops or dollar stores & $1-7! – Sunglasses? Mine are from dollar stores – & I just ordered a bunch from graveyardmall for $1 a pr.! I dress very nicely, as all my designer clothes come 2nd hand! (Wearing my Micharl Kors sweater today…) I will look up the affordable site – but, m’dear – you have no idea what FRUGAL really IS. My hubby would have a cow if he saw me spending our $ like that!

Bigwords.com couldn't have come at a better time. I have a granddaughter who will be enrolling as a college freshman later this year. Too, my niece begins her sophomore next term. Hi Frugal Scholar,

In one sense, yes this post is an advertisement, as it is clearly promoting one website. On the other hand, the author clearly identifies herself as working for the company and I think that the rest of the article is interesting and of value to Almost Frugal readers.

My policy is to accept guest posts, most of which have been pitched to me by companies or people looking to promote their products or services, as long as the guest post relates to frugality and I feel that it will be of value to you, the community here.

Although I accept advertising on Almost Frugal (on the right hand side of the site), I have never written a post for money, nor have I ever been paid to publish a guest post.

I hope this clears things up!
